Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy : World Premiere

Tomas Alfredson’s film of John le Carré’s classic Cold War novel will be screened In Competition on September 5th

Working Title’s eagerly-awaited TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY, with its all-star cast headed by Gary Oldman as the reactivated MI6 agent George Smiley, has been selected to play In Competition at the Venice International Film Festival on September 5th, which will mark its World premiere.

Opening in the United Kingdom on September 16th, through Optimum Releasing, the thriller also stars Kathy Burke, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Ciarán Hinds, John Hurt, Toby Jones, Konstantin Khabensky, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Roger Lloyd Pack, and Mark Strong and is directed by Tomas Alfredson (“Let The Right One In”).
Set in the 1970s, TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY finds George Smiley, a recently retired MI6 agent, doing his best to adjust to a life outside the secret service. However, when a disgraced agent reappears with information concerning a mole at the heart of the Circus, Smiley is drawn back into the murky field of espionage. Tasked with investigating which of his trusted former colleagues has chosen to betray him and their country, Smiley narrows his search to four suspects - all experienced, urbane, successful agents - but past histories, rivalries and friendships make it far from easy to pinpoint the man who is eating away at the heart of the British establishment.

The screenplay is by Peter Straughan and Bridget O’Connor and the film, which was shot in London, Budapest and Istanbul is produced by Working Title’s co-chairmen Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and Robyn Slovo. The executive producers are Debra Hayward, Liza Chasin, Douglas Urbanski, Peter Morgan, Olivier Courson, Ron Halpern and John le Carré.

Author John le Carré (David Cornwell) has expressed his approval of Swedish director Tomas Alfredson’s new version of his classic thriller, following its success 32 years previously as an acclaimed BBC TV series:
“The film, through my very personal prism, is a triumph.  And if people write to me and say, ‘How could you let this happen to poor Alec Guinness,’ I shall reply that, if ‘poor Alec’ had witnessed Oldman’s performance, he would have been the first to give it a standing ovation. It’s not the film of the book.  It’s the film of the film, and to my eye a work of art in its own right.  I’m very proud to have provided Alfredson with the material, but what he made of it is wonderfully his own.”

Fright Night gets a real trailer

A few days ago I posted about the remake of Fright Night and said that I couldn't find a UK trailer. All this has now changed as I've just been sent it! Along with the poster I now can give you the full set. Poster, trailer and images!

It's far better than the US one and we see a bit of David "Dr Who" Tennant topless!

Senior Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all—he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the hottest girl in high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But trouble arrives when an intriguing stranger Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right— yet no one, including Charley’s mom (Toni Collette), seems to notice! After witnessing some very unusual activity, Charley comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on his neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone that he’s telling the truth, Charley has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.

Have you sunk my Battleship?

WOW! Watching the trailer that premiered over on Yahoo Movies, it seems that Universal has spent the large part of the movies' $200 million budget not on any of the acting tallent but on making giant CGI robots!

With world class acting talent, Rihanna, and the director who gave us Hancock don't expect much more than something like Transformers: Dark of the Moon but on the water.

Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Based on Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Commanding Officer Stone of the USS Samson; Rihanna as Lt. Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones, and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.

Berg directs this epic action-adventure also produced by Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir of Hasbro (the Transformers franchise), along with Scott Stuber (Couples Retreat), Sarah Aubrey (The Kingdom) and Duncan Henderson (Master and Commander).
The biggest battle of all: Battleship hits UK cinemas April 20, 2011.

IN TIME - Comic Con sizzle reel

Fox has just sent over what they describe as a "Sizzle reel". No, I have no idea what that means as well.

It has the feel of a Philip K Dick story mixed with a strange sort of Logan's run.

Welcome to a world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there’s a catch: you’re genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it. The rich “earn” decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day. When a man from the wrong side of the tracks is falsely accused of murder, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage. Living minute to minute, the duo’s love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.

Paranormal Activity 3 gets a teaser trailer

Now Saw has ended it's seven year run, Hollywood needs a series to run with.

The first Paranormal Activity film was, in its way, groundbreaking in horror terms. The second was a way to cash in on the success of the first and now with the third... I haven't seen any of the, now, trilogy but what I have read it seems that the film series is running backwards. In other words Paranormal Activity 2 isn't a sequel but a prequel. The third film seems to be a prequel to this film. If this carries on we will get a Paranormal Activity: The Womb months in the next couple of years.

No UK poster exists at the moment but here is the US one. It shares the same release date as when the film hits the UK and, probably, the same images...
We are excited to tell you that the CATFISH team of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have come aboard PARANORMAL 3. Jason Blum and the original creator Oren Peli are back producing with Steven Schneider and Akiva Goldsman executive producing. Christopher B. Landon, who served as a writer on last year’s hit sequel is back, and so are your sleepless nights.

More strangeness coming out of Japan. This time it's not only got sex and money but Androids and ninjas thrown in for good measure. WE have reviewed this wonderfully strange film - just head over here to read what we thought.

The second has beastlike strength, and the third is a clumsy misfit who can't seem to get anything right. He fantasises over his mistress and is adored by her. Together, the three androids help detect danger, and serve Tomayo during the day, and occasionally engage in after-dark 'bedroom protection' as well... Life is good!

Meanwhile another family member, Tsukiyo (Japanese AV star Maria Ozawa) who is jealous of Tomayo, hires a private detective to spy on her. He uncovers a dark secret that Tomayo is in fact the “bastard daughter” of a servant. When Tsukiyo discovers this, she is consumed by rage believing Tomayo to be an embarrassment to the family and not ‘pure blood’. Along with her servant Azami (Asami, The Machine Girl, Robogeisha), she plots to regain the inheritance she believes to be hers!!! Can she distract the three Androids long enough to exact her plan?! Who will the Androids serve in the end?! Which Android will win Tamayo's love??!!
