This is a lesson on where less is far more, casting, writing and acting perfect.
Brilliantly directed by Fisher Stevens, (Just a Kiss) and a witty and gritty pen from Noah Haidle, (Gym Short). Despite their inexperience at the sharp end of the business they have produced a cracking film that warms the heart of true friendship.

More from Jack Ryan

A new trailer for the film has just hit my in-box. Whoever cut this one together dropped the, possible, sub-plot that appears in the first trailer.

Also it's a much more explosive trailer aiming more at the action than the drama of the first.

Jack Ryan, as a young covert CIA analyst, uncovers a Russian plot to crash the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack.

Appleseed XIII DVD Short Review

4 Stars of Beautiful Manga, Masamune Shirow's Saga Goes on.
applead13cover
We gorged ourselves on each amazing 30 minute episode with "oohs and ahs and oh my god that's amazing" at every frame turn. We see City-Olympus bathed in beautiful sunlight,World War 5 is over, Planet Earth has avoided a nuclear holocaust and Olympus has become the centre of the World and the human race is under the eye of the Bioroids (Human Clones made from only the best DNA) and they are working towards a human utopia.

But not everyone is happy with this idea. Some despise the very idea of the Bioroids, The Human Liberation Front for one and their very heavily armoured allies the Argonauts who live on a self-propelled city-Fortress.

4 stars for this disturbing yet compelling piece.

Spit CoverI Spit On Your Grave 2 is directed by Stephen R. Monroe and is the sequel to his 2010 remake of the film I Spit On Your Grave. I Spit On Your Grave 2 tells the story of Katie (Jemma Dallender - HollyOaks, Community), an aspiring model, who has moved to New York to find fame. Desperate to update her portfolio, she calls a number she finds on a flyer, advertising free photographs.

Jack Ryan is back

With a new Jack Ryan film hitting UK cinemas late this year does make me happy as I loved The Hunt For Red October.

The film does look good but the trailer hints on, what seems to be, a major plot point. You should be able to spot it.

Finally, Brad Grey, chairman of Paramount USA released the following statement on the death of Tom Clancy.
"Tom Clancy was one of the great storytellers of our time and his passing has been deeply felt by all of us at Paramount. We are forever indebted to Tom for making this studio his home, and our deepest sympathies go out to his family, and his many fans, at this great loss."

Sharknado DVD and Blu-ray Short Review

0.1 stars for this appalling shower of sharks.

Sharknado coverSharknado is a great title for a film, there is no denying that. So it does come as rather a surprise that armed with such a good idea, they managed to produce a film which has no visible redeeming features (other than the title, that is).

Sharknado is directed by Anthony C. Ferrante (Boo, Scream Of The Banshee) and written by Thunder Levin (American Warships, AE: Apocalypse Earth). With a pedigree like that, I was expecting great things.
