Triggering our age of high-stakes secrecy, explosive news leaks and the trafficking of classified information, WikiLeaks forever changed the game. Now, in a dramatic thriller based on real events, “The Fifth Estate” reveals the quest to expose the deceptions and corruptions of power that turned an Internet upstart into the 21st century’s most fiercely debated organization.

The story begins as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his colleague Daniel Domscheit-Berg (Daniel Brühl) team up to become underground watchdogs of the privileged and powerful. On a shoestring, they create a platform that allows whistleblowers to anonymously leak covert data, shining a light on the dark recesses of government secrets and corporate crimes. Soon, they are breaking more hard news than the world’s most legendary media organizations combined. But when Assange and Berg gain access to the biggest trove of confidential intelligence documents in U.S. history, they battle each other and a defining question of our time: what are the costs of keeping secrets in a free society—and what are the costs of exposing them?"

The White Queen DVD and Blu-ray Release Short Review

4 stars of what the BBC does best. The White Queen cover
The White Queen is a lavish affair, a great example of the glee with which the BBC throw themselves into the production of a period drama.
It is based upon the series of novels "The Cousins War", written by Philippa Gregory (The Other Boleyn Girl) and is set towards the end  of the 15th century, before the rise of the Tudors and during the height of the conflict between the houses of York and Lancaster.
This rich tale of love and hate, deception and intrigue is told through the intertwined stories of three women, each powerful and influential in their own right.

Space Battleship Yamato DVD and Blu-ray Short Review

4.5 Stars of Awesomeness, Space Battleship Yamato Lives.

This a live action version of the very popular animé series from 1974 of the same name.
Yamato cover2194 Captain Okita (Tsutomu Yamazaki, Departures) finds himself and his armada near the orbit of Mars, as Earth has come under fire of an alien race that knows nothing about, apart from they use massive meteors as weapons to bombard the surface of the planet and cover the surface with radiation.

They fire on the enemy but little happens; they have underestimated the power of these aliens, as they return fire the Earth ships are torn asunder as they try to flee, Captain Mamoru Kodai (Shin'ichi Tsutsum, A Lone Scalpel) contacts Okita and tells him to get back to Earth as he is about to put his ship in harms way, sacrificing his ship and crew so someone can tell the story of what happened that day.
From the outset this space battle opens your eyes as the graphics are awesome competing at the same level as any Hollywood production. It's a frantic battle and in Blu-ray you don't know which way to look.

3 Star fun in horrorland.
This is what it is, "the fifth and final instalment in a four part trilogy". With its forked tongue firmly in someone else's cheek or ear-hole.

More views from Rush

Two-time Academy Award® winner Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, Frost/Nixon), teams once again with fellow two-time Academy Award® nominee, writer Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), on Rush, a spectacular big-screen re-creation of the merciless 1970s rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives.

Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda. Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error. If you make one mistake, you die.
