Eros International showcases grand line-up at Cannes Film Festival 2011

This isn't the first piece from Cannes and I don't expect it to be the last. However, I didn't expect one from Eros 'tho

London, 11th May 2011: Eros International Plc (Eros International), the largest integrated film studio in the Indian media & entertainment sector, has plans to showcase its grand 2011 slate at the forthcoming Cannes Film Festival.

Eros will be exhibiting one of its most anticipated releases this year, Ra.One, produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Anubhav Sinha. The ambitious super hero film, which has Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles, is set to raise the bar in standards of filmmaking and brilliant visual effects. Ra.One releases in cinemas worldwide on Diwali, 26th October 2011.

After the stupendous success of Dabangg last year, Eros has now acquired the overseas distribution rights for Salman Khan’s Ready, which will be releasing in cinemas on 3rd June 2011. Directed by Anees Bazmi and also starring Asin in the lead role, Ready brings out ‘Salman Unlimited’ for his fans in this romcom.

One of our focuses at Cannes this year is the promising BOL which will release in cinemas on 24th June 2011. Bol is directed by the talented Pakistani director Shoaib Mansoor, who is back with a hard hitting social drama after his critically acclaimed and award winning film ‘Khuda Kay Liye’. Set in Pakistan, BOL highlights the sorry plight of women in the society and narrates the story of a daughter who stands up and challenges the age old societal norms of treating women as lesser beings. The movie stars renowned Pakistani actress Humaima Malick in the lead along with singing sensation Atif Aslam as well as Iman Ali, Mahira Khan, Manzar Sehbai & Shafaqat Cheema.

Eros has also taken up the overseas distribution rights for the sequel to the hugely successful Murder – Murder 2. Produced by Mahesh Bhatt and starring Emraan Hashmi, Jacqueline Fernandes & Yana Gupta, Murder 2 will release in cinemas on 8th July 2011.

The highly anticipated Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD) produced by Excel Entertainment and directed by Zoya Akhtar, will also be amongst Eros’ focus at Cannes this year. A youth-oriented fun-filled road adventure film shot largely across Spain, boasts of a stellar cast comprising Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin and promises to set new benchmarks for cool. ZNMD hits cinemas worldwide on 15th July 2011.

Yet another big ticket film to be promoted this year includes Mausam, a young love story starring Shahid Kapur and Sonam Kapoor, co-produced by Eros International and Vistaar Religare, directed by veteran actor Pankaj Kapur. Shot across various seasons in picturesque locales of Edinburgh, Delhi, Punjab, Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the film promises to be a visual treat for the young as well as the entire family. Mausam releases in cinemas worldwide on 22nd July 2011.

Eros’ recent release, small but high on content Chalo Dilli, which opened to rave reviews and great word-of-mouth, will also be promoted at Cannes. An Eros International co-production with Big Daddy Productions and Bheegi Basanti Entertainment, Chalo Dilli is a slice of life entertaining road film that reflects the real India. The film stars Lara Dutta and Vinay Pathak in lead roles and is directed by talented Shashant Shah who made his directorial debut with Dasvidaniyan.

Eros will also be talking about its other big projects for the year, though the looks for these films are still under wraps – Rockstar: Eros’ next venture with director Imtiaz Ali, after the hugely successful Love Aaj Kal. An Eros’ co-production with Shri Ashtavinayak, Rockstar stars the talented and raved about Ranbir Kapoor. The music is by A R Rehman ; Agent Vinod: Eros co-production with Illuminati Films, Agent Vinod is a cutting edge action adventure, directed by Shriram Raghavan and starring Saif Ali Khan & Kareena Kapoor ; Desi Boyz: written and directed by one of the industry’s youngest directors, Rohit Dhawan that will herald a whole new genre, the sensible dramedy with emotional connect for the audiences and at the same time a lot of fun with a dash of Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone and Chitrangda Singh.

Always Kabhi Kabhi, a teen-flick directed by Roshan Abbas and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, will also be promoted by Eros. Always Kabhi Kabhi which stars budding young talent Giselle Monteiro (Love Aaj Kal fame), Zoa Morani, Ali Fazal and Tariq Naqvi, releases in cinemas worldwide on 17th June 2011. Eros will also be promoting its recent release GAME, a stylish thriller, produced by Excel Entertainment and starring Abhishek Bachchan, ex-Miss India Sarah Jane Dias, Kangna Ranaut, Jimmy Shergill, Boman Irani and Anupam Kher.

In addition to its 2011 slate, Eros will also be showcasing the first look of Rajinikanth’s next magnum opus RANA which has recently gone on floors. Eros International along with NextGen Films, is producing the film through Rana Production Ltd., UK. Directed by K.S. Ravikumar, Rana will be a live action with Rajinikanth playing triple role. Also starring Deepika Padukone and Ileana D’Cruz, Rana will be released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. The music for the film is being scored by A R Rehman, director of photography Ratnavelu and editing would be done by Antony. The technical director is Soundarya Rajnikanth, of Ocher Visual effects UK, a subsidiary of Ocher Studios Pvt Limited, and Charles Darby of Eyeqube Studios, renowned visual effects luminary and an Emmy award winner, is the creative and special effects director on the film. The film is scheduled to release in 2012.
