Waking up in a cell...

Watching the trailer this new prison film from Spanish director Daniel Monzón makes me want and see this film. It comes across, as it says in the below synopsis, a cross between Die Hard, Con Air (That I don't see from the trailer) and A Prophet. With the US rights already sold and the screenwriter of Crash, Paul Haggis, doing that script.

I have always been very wary of US remakes of forieng language films as they are mostly golden turds of a film. Yes, I know there has been exceptions such as the Oscar winning The Departed, a remake of the Hong Kong film, Infernal Affairs.

I have no idea where the below trailer is from but it's subtitled in English.  Looking into it a little more I can say it's, probably, the Canadian version as the company that appears at the start, Remstar, is from Canada.
Juan Oliver is knocked unconscious during the prison tour on the day before he begins his new job as prison officer. He is rushed to the empty cell 211 and left to come around. Meanwhile, inmates of the high security wing break free and riots break out. When he awakes he realises he's trapped and has to pretend to be a new prisoner in order to survive...

Engaging and intense, a cross between Die Hard, Con Air and A Prophet, Daniel Monzón's gripping prison drama CELL 211, swept the board at the Goya Awards winning 8 awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor and has been nominated for 2 European Film Awards; Best European Actor (Luis Tosar) and Best European Screenwriter. Paul Haggis (Crash) has already been pegged to pen the US remake.
