The adventure of “The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.

Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, the character he played in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and Martin Freeman, who won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the BBC series “Sherlock,” takes on the central role of Bilbo Baggins. Also reprising their roles from “The Lord of the Rings” movies are: Cate Blanchett as Galadriel; Orlando Bloom as Legolas; Ian Holm as the elder Bilbo; Christopher Lee as Saruman; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; Elijah Wood as Frodo; and Andy Serkis as Gollum. The ensemble cast also includes (in alphabetical order) Richard Armitage, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Sylvester McCoy, Bret McKenzie, Graham McTavish, Mike Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Conan Stevens, Ken Stott, Jeffrey Thomas, and Aidan Turner.

Family Sci-Fi Classics 'Short Circuit' & 'Flight of the Navigator' hit Blu-ray

Number 5 is alive in the classic 80s comedy sci-fi adventure Short Circuit which comes to Blu-ray for the first time courtesy of Second Sight Films.

An experimental military robot escapes after being struck by lightening, giving it human intelligence. He escapes and finds a home with madcap Stephanie Speck (Ally Sheedy), who believes he is an alien, but hot on his trail are scientists Newton Crosby (Steve Guttenburg) and his assistant (Fisher Stevens), who must get to their creation before the army, who plan to put Number 5 out of service permanently.

This hugely entertaining adventure makes its Blu-ray debut, along with a DVD release featuring some great special features and will be released on 19 November 2012. 

Flight of the Navigator is the action-packed classic 80s adventure into another world and makes its Blu-ray debut courtesy of Second Sight Films.

The year is 1978 and 12-year-old David Freeman is knocked unconscious while playing. He wakes up and discovers it’s now 1986 and he’s been missing for eight years. NASA believes he’s been abducted by aliens and want to use him for their research. But with the guidance of a strange unseen entity he discovers a hidden spaceship and with the help of MAX the computer sets off on an incredible mission to get back to the past where he belongs.

 This family sci-fi adventure comes to Blu-ray for the first time as well as a DVD release on 19 November 2012 courtesy of Second Sight Films and makes a perfect gift for Christmas.

Lawrence is back in the cinema

50 years ago a film was released that became a classic. That film was Lawrence of Arabia. Now you can see it in the cinema after Sony Pictures restored the film to, probably, its original length.

Not only do you get to see a restored version of the film, you also get to see it in the original roadshow format, with an overture, intermission, entr'acte [Yes, I did have to look what that meant as well] and exit music.

One of the screen's grandest epics, this monumental story recounts the true life experiences of T.E. Lawrence, better known to the world as Lawrence of Arabia. A young, idealistic British officer in WWI, Lawrence (Peter O'Toole) is assigned to the camp of Prince Feisal (Alec Guinness), an Arab tribal chieftain and leader in a revolt against the Turks. In a series of brilliant tactical manoeuvres, Lawrence leads fifty of Feisal's men in a torturous three week crossing of the Nefud Desert to attack the strategic Turkish held port of Aqaba. And following his successful raids against Turkish troops and trains, Lawrence's triumphant leadership and unyielding courage gain him nearly god-like status among his Arab brothers.

Two Faces of January - Principal photography commences

London, 2012 – STUDIOCANAL and Working Title are delighted to announce the start of principal photography on feature film The Two Faces of January. Picture will shoot on location in Crete, Athens, Istanbul and Ealing Studios London. Working Title will produce and STUDIOCANAL finance, distributing in the U.K., Germany, France & Australia, selling the rest of the world.

The Two Faces of January is a stylish international thriller starring some of the finest global acting talent working today; Academy Award nominee Viggo Mortensen (The Road, Eastern Promises, A History of Violence), Golden Globe nominee and Cannes Best Actress prize winner Kirsten Dunst (Melancholia, Marie Antoinette, Spider-Man 2 & 3) and Oscar Isaac (Drive, The Bourne Legacy and the Coens’ forthcoming Inside Llewyn Davis). 1962. A glamorous American couple, the charismatic CHESTER MACFARLAND (Mortensen) and his alluring younger wife COLETTE (Dunst), arrive in Athens by boat via the Corinthian Canal. While sightseeing at the Acropolis they encounter RYDAL (Isaac), a young, Greek-speaking American who is working as a tour guide, scamming tourists on the side. Drawn to Colette’s beauty and impressed by Chester's wealth and sophistication, Rydal gladly accepts their invitation to dinner.

However, all is not as it seems with the MacFarlands and Chester’s affable exterior hides darker secrets. When Rydal visits the couple at their exclusive hotel, Chester presses him to help move the body of a seemingly unconscious man who he claims attacked him. In the moment, Rydal agrees but as events take a more sinister turn he finds himself compromised and unable to pull himself free. His increasing infatuation with the vulnerable and responsive Colette gives rise to Chester’s jealousy and paranoia, leading to a tense and dangerous battle of wits between the two men. Their journey takes them from Greece to Turkey, and to a dramatic finale played out in the back alleys of Istanbul's Grand Bazaar.

Following on "Tinker Tailor," helmed by Swede Tomas Alfredson and Dan Mazer's "I Give It a Year," now in post, "The Two Faces" continues STUDIOCANAL's new film-by-film relationship with Working Title.

Meet The Croods

After Dreamworks departed from Paramount some wondered where they would go. The answer was over to Fox. With a five year deal signed. The first film from this deal is The Croods - originally this was going to be from Aardaman but after they fell out / were dropped by Dreamworks the film was re-imagined as a CGI film. It has still quite a while to go before release, or even a trailer but we have the first poster from the film
