Cars 2 favourite Lightning McQueen re-created out of 1000’s of Cars 2 toy cars

Taking a staggering 100 hours and using 5,554 toy cars, talented model maker Jay Sheppard has made a life-size model of Cars 2 race car, superstar, Lightning McQueen. The giant sculpture, created out of thousands of Cars 2 toy cars marks the release of Cars 2 out on Disney 3D Blu-ray™, Blu-Ray™ & DVD now.

Facts and figures:

• The total number of cars used was: 5,554. This means that the sculpture includes:
• 22,216 wheels
• 11,108 eyes or headlights of which there would be 7,008 Lightning McQueen eyes.
• If each car was placed in a line, the total length would be 499.86 m:
• The equivalent of 5 Football Pitches
• Would comfortably wrap around the entire circumference of the London Eye
• 2.12 times as long as the UK’s current tallest building, One Canada Square and 1.55 times longer than the tallest planned UK building (Goodman’s Fields).
• This would also break the world record for the longest line of toy cars, currently held by children and volunteers in Reutte, Austria after they created a line 239.1m long on 22 September 2010.
• If all the cars used were stacked on top of each other, they would reach 277 metres – almost 3 times as tall as Big Ben!
• Total weight of the sculpture: 4165.5kg:
• 6.5 times the weight of the average F1 car
• 1.5 times the weight of the heaviest car on sale: the Maybach 62
• The equivalent of 63.2 Lewis Hamiltons (who stars in the film)

Directed by John Lasseter, and featuring acting legend Sir Michael Caine in his Pixar debut as top British spy Finn McMissile, Disney Pixar Cars 2 is the follow up to the 2006 Golden Globe award winning movie Cars.

Versatile actor John Turturro gives a free-wheeling performance as Francesco Bernoulli, the world-renowned Italian racing champ and Lightning’s chief rival. Jason Isaacs, Eddie Izzard, and Vanessa Redgrave also lend their vocal talents. Real-life Formula 1 racing champ Lewis Hamilton and NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon add a touch of authenticity with their cameos in the film.

Star race car Lightning McQueen and the incomparable tow truck Mater take their friendship to exciting new places in Cars 2 when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world.

Additional bonus features include the fascinating commentary from award-winning director John Lasseter and a one-of-a-kind interactive “World Tour” map that takes viewers through nine different locations, including those featured in the film and more.
