Exclusive Screening of Battleship...on a Battleship

Blockbuster thanks Armed Forces for involvement in the Games

On Monday night, HMS OCEAN, the Royal Navy's largest ship hosted an exclusive screening of the

blockbuster film, Battleship, courtesy of retailer Blockbuster - to thank the crew for their involvement in the security of the Olympics.

The 980 crew members of HMS OCEAN, which is moored near Greenwich, have provided a range of security support during the last two weeks. However last night they were given the chance to relax in the hangar of the ship and enjoy the explosive film, which stars global superstar Rihanna alongside Academy Award nominee, Liam Neeson and Hollywood newcomer, Taylor Kitsch.

HMS OCEAN, also played its part in welcoming the Games to London when the crew created the five rings on the flight deck on the 13th July, two weeks before the opening ceremony.

Blockbuster's head of movies, James Wilcox said: "As we have the rental rights to Battleship before anyone else, we felt that it was only right that we celebrate this mega-film on the Royal Navy's biggest battleship and thank all the crew for their involvement in making the Games such a successful, and safe, event."

Commander Jon Asbridge RN, The Logistics Officer of HMS Ocean said : “The ship is in London for some 9 weeks helping to provide security to the Olympics and Paralympics and accommodation for military personnel working at Greenwich Park.  With around 1000 sailors, marines, soldiers and airmen living onboard this is a fantastic opportunity for them to get some downtime for an exclusive showing of ‘Battleship’ in such an appropriate venue as the aircraft hangar of the Royal Navy’s largest warship.  On behalf of them all, I must thank Blockbuster for their generosity in putting this event on for us.

Battleship will also be available to buy on 20th August from Blockbuster and other retailers on DVD and Blu-ray.

The last gasp from Battleship

We have just been sent over the final trailer for the upcoming big budget version of the famous game. not only do we get a pop-star as one of the main characters - we get Aliens in suits and orange pegs that explode when stuck into the battleship. Sorry, small, high explosive bombs that only need a small number to destroy anything that gets in the way. In this, final, trailer we see even more than we did from the last trailer

Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Based on Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Commanding Officer Stone of the USS Samson; Rihanna as Lt. Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones, and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.

Berg directs this epic action-adventure also produced by Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir of Hasbro (the Transformers franchise), along with Scott Stuber (Couples Retreat), Sarah Aubrey (The Kingdom) and Duncan Henderson (Master and Commander).

More from Battleship

Universal has released a new trailer for their upcoming game. Sorry, their upcoming feature film based on a game that can be played using paper and a pen! With the new trailer we see a lot more of the quality of the acting and lot more action.

Battleship gets an even more explosive new trailer

An action packed new trailer for Battleship has just been fired into my in-box. Lots of explosions, lots of mediocre acting and a singer who seems to be just able to say her lines and not bump into the furniture or other people in the scene.  Not only that we get a new set of images (click to embiggen them) and a new poster!

Battleship gets a new trailer

With James Cameron using this film as an example of Hollywood's current ‘story crisis’. Or in another way, Hollywood can't think of any new ideas. Or if they do it's either done on an incredibly low budget or with a massive one with someone like Cameron at the helm.

Have you sunk my Battleship?

WOW! Watching the trailer that premiered over on Yahoo Movies, it seems that Universal has spent the large part of the movies' $200 million budget not on any of the acting tallent but on making giant CGI robots!

With world class acting talent, Rihanna, and the director who gave us Hancock don't expect much more than something like Transformers: Dark of the Moon but on the water.
