"No Mr Bond, I expect you to die." named best Bond moment in Sky Movies HDpoll

The laser-charged "No Mr Bond, I expect you to die." confrontation between Goldfinger and Sean Connery's Bond has been named the nation's favourite Bond moment in a new poll from Sky Movies HD to celebrate the return of its dedicated Bond channel Sky Movies 007/HD.

After 50 years and 23 films to date, Sky Movies asked over 2,500 members of the public to name their favourite Bond moment as part of a special programme BOND¹S GREATEST MOMENTS which is available on Sky Movies 007/HD and On Demand.

Hosted by Sky Movies presenter Alex Zane, the programme includes contributions from much-loved Bond stars including Daniel Craig and Judi Dench, Bond directors, producers and celebrity fans including Andrew Garfield and Hugh Jackman.

When informed of the winning moment, which received 10.3% of the votes, current Bond star Daniel Craig admitted: "Yes, that would take some beating."

Second in the poll was the breath-taking pre-title moment in The Spy Who Loved Me which showed Roger Moore skiing off the edge of an Austrian mountain to open a Union Jack parachute (7.6%), which narrowly beat the first ever, now definitive "Bond...James Bond" statement from Sean Connery in 1962's Dr. No, which was third with 5.7%.

Marking a change in direction for Bond at the time, Daniel Craig's exciting parkour chase across a building site in Casino Royale was named in fourth place in the poll (5.3%) ahead of The Man With The Golden Gun's barrel roll car sequence, which saw Roger Moore¹s Bond perform a daring car jump across a Bangkok river (4.5%).

Pierce Brosnan made his entry into the poll in sixth place with 3.3% for his tank chase through St. Petersburg in Goldeneye which just beat Roger Moore's novel crocodile 'stepping stone' escape in Live And Let Die in seventh (2.8%). Speaking about the moment, Hugh Jackman jokes: "Roger Moore escaping some situation by jumping over alligators¹ backs ­ am I remembering that right or was that an SNL spoof? It could have been."

The eighth most popular Bond scene was back to four wheels for Daniel Craig¹s Quantum of Solace Aston Martin DBS race through the banks of Lake Garda (2.2%), followed by Desmond Llewellyn's final scene as Q in The World Is Not Enough where viewers saw him advise Pierce Brosnan to "pay attention 007" for the very last time (2%).

A sombre moment rounds off the top ten of Bond moments, courtesy of On Her Majesty's Secret Service and George Lazenby's only turn as 007. Following a tumultuous relationship and just moments after marrying his bride Tracy (played by Diana Rigg), celebrations were cut short when Blofeld carried out a drive-by-shooting that killed her and left Bond grief-stricken (1.7%).

Bond makes history in just 40 days

London, 5th December – Eon Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment are delighted to announce that Skyfall has made history in the UK and become the highest grossing film of all time.

Skyfall has now taken a staggering £94,277,612 at the UK box office in just 40 days on release, making box office history and overtaking the record previously held by Avatar which had a lifetime gross of £94,025, 632 million during 11 months on release in UK cinemas.

SKYFALL, the 23rd James Bond adventure, continuing the longest running and most successful franchise in film history, opened in 587 cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Friday 26th October, and is still on general release.

In response to this fantastic news, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said “We’re overwhelmed with gratitude to the cinema-going audiences in the UK who have made Skyfall the highest grossing film of all time. Skyfall - Royal World Premiere

Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of the latest James Bond film SKYFALL, announced today, along with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that His Royal Highness Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall have graciously agreed to attend the World Premiere of the twenty-third 007 adventure on Tuesday, 23rd October 2012 at The Royal Albert Hall in London.

At the request of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales the premiere will benefit the charities that support former and serving members of the three intelligence agencies (the Secret Intelligence Service, the Security Service and GCHQ). His Royal Highness is Royal Patron of the Intelligence Services.

The premiere will be attended by the film’s leading actors Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Bérénice Marlohe, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw, and the director Sam Mendes.  The movie will be released in the UK and internationally from 26th October 2012 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Sony Pictures Releasing.

Wilson and Broccoli commented, 'We are thrilled His Royal Highness Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall have agreed to attend the World Premiere of our latest James Bond film, and are pleased this event will help raise funds to support The Prince’s chosen charities.’

A new feature documentary from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Columbia Pictures, Passion Pictures and Red Box Films, Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007, will be also be unveiled, country-specific details to follow. Directed by Stevan Riley (Fire In Babylon), Everything or Nothing focuses on three men with a shared dream – Bond producers Albert R. Broccoli, Harry Saltzman and author Ian Fleming. It’s the thrilling and inspiring narrative behind the longest running film franchise in cinema history which began in 1962.

007 GETS HIS QUARTERMASTER

CULVER CITY, Calif., July 12, 2012 – Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of SKYFALL™, the 23rd James Bond adventure, confirmed today that the character of Q will be making a welcome return to the Bond franchise and the role will be played by Ben Whishaw.

Whishaw becomes the fourth actor to play Bond’s quartermaster affectionately known as Q.   The role began with Peter Burton as Major Boothroyd  in Dr. No, followed by Desmond Llewelyn (in 17 Bond films between 1963-1999), and John Cleese (who appeared as Q’s assistant, R, in The World is Not Enough and was later promoted to Q in Die Another Day).

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli commented, “It’s a real thrill to confirm the return of Q in SKYFALL™ played by the enormously talented, Ben Whishaw. We are delighted to have this beloved character back in the series.”

BEN WHISHAW will be seen later this year in Cloud Atlas alongside an all-star cast including Tom Hanks, Jim Sturgess and Halle Berry, and in the BBC’s “Richard II.”  He will also be seen in the second series of “The Hour” for the BBC, in which he stars opposite Dominic West and Romola Garai.  His films include roles in Bright Star, The Tempest, Brideshead Revisited, I’m Not There, Stoned, Layer Cake, Enduring Love, The Trench, Mauvaise Passé, and the lead roles in My Brother Tom and Perfume opposite Alan Rickman and Dustin Hoffman.  For television, he also starred in the hugely popular BBC drama “Criminal Justice” which saw him pick up the award for best actor at the 2009 Royal Television Society Awards, Best Actor at the International Emmy Awards 2009 and was nominated for Best Actor at the 2009 BAFTA Television Awards.  His many roles on the British stage include “The Idiot,” “Cock”, “The Seagull,” “Hamlet” (for which he received an Olivier nomination), and “His Dark Materials.”  He will appear in Michael Grandage’s production of “Peter and Alice” in the title role opposite Judi Dench in 2013.  He was a BAFTA Rising Star nominee in 2007.

to the modern day state-of-the-art technology and original storyboards,  DESIGNING 007 – FIFTY YEARS OF BOND STYLE brings together for the first time 400 gadgets, vehicles, props and artifacts for a multi-sensory celebration of Bond style.

The white bikini worn by Ursula Andress in one of cinema’s most celebrated scenes joins more than 400 Bond archive items alongside a faithful recreation of the trunks Sean Connery wore in Thunderball in a new and highly anticipated Barbican exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise from 1962’s Dr No to this year’s Skyfall.

 

The items are displayed alongside those which they later inspired – the orange bikini worn by Halle Berry in Die Another Day and Daniel Craig’s sky blue trunks from Casino Royale are among 400 works comprising the DESIGNING 007 – FIFTY YEARS OF BOND STYLE exhibition, which opens at London’s Barbican Centre on 6 July 2012.

Exhibits on display also include Scaramanga’s Golden Gun from The Man with the Golden Gun, Oddjob’s steel-rimmed bowler hat and the proto-type of Rosa Klebb’s deadly flick-knife shoes worn in From Russia with Love, Tee-Hee’s metal arm from Live and Let Die and Jaws’ fearsome teeth, which first appeared in The Spy who Loved Me.

Vehicles and gadgets on display include the 1964 Aston Martin DB5, which famously returned to the screen in GoldenEye; Pierce Brosnan’s BMW motorcycle from Tomorrow Never Dies; the attaché case featured in From Russia with Love and Pierce Brosnan’s state of the art Ericsson mobile phone from Tomorrow Never Dies.

They take their place alongside original graphic drawings and models including the design for the Jetpack piloted by Bond in Thunderball; the storyboard for the action sequence in You Only Live Twice featuring mini-helicopter ‘Little Nellie’, together with the miniature ‘Wet Nellie’ Lotus Esprit used for filming in The Spy Who Loved Me.

The exhibition transforms many of the Barbican spaces, including The Silk Street Entrance, the Curve gallery, the Pit theatre and some of the public foyer spaces, taking visitors on a journey through themed rooms and environments reflecting fifty years of Bond style.

Guests of DESIGNING 007 – FIFTY YEARS OF BOND STYLE enjoyed a selection of James Bond-inspired drinks and canapés, including confit duck pancakes with lime and sweet chilli; caramelised fig, cashel blue and walnut croute; smoked salmon blinis with Avruga caviar; glasses of James’ champagne of choice, Bollinger, and the legendary Martini bar, shaken, not stirred.

The exhibition will run at the Barbican Centre from 6 July to 5 September 2012 and then tour internationally over a three year period.

The collection will be available on September 24 in the United Kingdom with additional international markets to follow that week. BOND 50 marks the debut of nine James Bond films previously unavailable in high definition Blu-ray and comes with a dossier of more than 122 hours of bonus features.

Set for release just prior to the theatrical premiere of SKYFALL, BOND 50 will offer a look at the latest Bond film through videoblogs shot with the cast and crew.
