New British record for most paper planes launched simultaneously to celebrate the forthcoming release of Disney's PLANES
Over eight thousand people simultaneously launched paper planes from the UK's leading family festival, Camp Bestival in Dorset, England at precisely 10.30am this past Sat, 3rd August. Exactly 8080 people threw a paper plane, setting a UK record for the most paper aircraft flown at the same time in Britain.
From above the world of Cars, Disney's Planes is an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty's not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty's courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.
Disney's Planes will be flying into UK cinemas on August 16 2013.

Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional consulting detective, has been awarded a Guinness World Records title for the “Most Portrayed Literary Human Character in Film & TV.” as part of London & Partners’ World Record London.
The character, brought to life recently in film by Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows – available now on Blu-ray and DVD – famously lived at 221B Baker Street, London and was renowned for his incredible powers of deduction.
Sherlock Holmes has been depicted on screen a massive 254 times since his creation in 1887. Through a combination of appearances in films, television series, dramas and documentaries, Sherlock – one of the great British literary exports – beats his nearest rival, Shakespeare’s Hamlet, by 48 portrayals to claim the record.
The first known appearance of Sherlock on screen is believed to be 1890’s Sherlock Holmes Baffled, a 30 second silent movie created in the US and shown in Mutoscope machines, a regular feature of arcades at the time. The short film shows Holmes being burgled and struggling to stop the intruder, but the identities of the actors who played Holmes and his assailant were never recorded.
Since then, Sherlock has been played by over 75 actors including Sir Christopher Lee, who has also played Sherlock’s brother Mycroft, Charlton Heston, Peter O’Toole, Christopher Plummer, Peter Cook, Roger Moore and John Cleese.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock, saw a largely British cast bring the thrilling story of Sherlock’s nemesis Moriarty and his destructive plot to life. The cast includes Jude Law as Dr. Watson, Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes, Jared Harris as Moriarty and Eddie Marsan as Inspector Lestrade. It is available now on Blu-ray and DVD.
Other literary figures in the top 10 include Cinderella (136), Robin Hood (127), Romeo (101) and Tarzan (85).
The record has been awarded by London & Partners – the official promotional organisation for the capital - as part of World Record London. The campaign will see London attempt over 20 Guinness World Records to become a multi record-breaking city in the run up to the 2012 Games.
Claire Burgess, Guinness World Records adjudicator said: “Sherlock Holmes is a literary institution. This Guinness World Records title reflects his enduring appeal and demonstrates that his detective talents are as compelling today as they were 125 years ago.”

If he succeeds, it will not only bring him immense wealth and power but alter the course of history.

LONDON, June 27, 2011 – On Saturday 25th June, in honour of Global Smurfs Day, Smurfs fans in 11 cities around the world set a new Guinness World Records title for the Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Smurfs within a 24-hour Period in Multiple Venues, it was announced by Marc Weinstock, president, Worldwide Marketing for Sony Pictures Entertainment. The worldwide events were organised by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Pictures Animation in anticipation of the release of The Smurfs®, which will be released in the UK on 10 August 2011.
As worldwide audiences turned out to celebrate the birthday of Peyo, the creator of the Smurfs, fans came to events dressed as Smurfs (white Smurf hat, white pants and shoes, and body painted blue). Adjudicators from Guinness World Records confirmed that a total of 4,891 people dressed as Smurfs in 11 locations simultaneously around the world, claiming a new title for Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Smurfs within a 24-hour Period in Multiple Venues. The previous record had been 2,510 people dressed as Smurfs.
The global record was set by people dressed as Smurfs in Brussels, Belgium; Athens, Greece; Scheveningen (The Hague), Holland; Dublin, Ireland; Mexico City, Mexico; Panama City, Panama; Warsaw, Poland; Moscow, Russia; Johannesburg, South Africa; New York, USA; and London, UK.
Commenting on the announcement, Weinstock said, “It’s a thrill to see so many people turn out to be a part of this true fan moment in Smurfs history. Breaking a Guinness World Record on Global Smurfs Day is a testament to the enormous appeal and popularity of these beloved characters.”
Aleksandr Vypirailenko, Guinness World Records Adjudicator, added, “We are impressed by the level of coordination and timing required to pull off this truly global record attempt. With 11 cities, each with hundreds of people dressed as Smurfs – and it all happened simultaneously. We apply the same strict rules and exacting approach to every record that we recognise, and it’s exciting to see that this record was not simply broken, but smashed.”
In addition, people around the world observed Global Smurfs Day, from lit monuments in Brazil to a fun-filled family event at the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. In France, Smurf figurines inhabited Paris’s garden of the Champs de Mars (in front of the Eiffel Tower).
The Smurfs make their first 3D trip to the big screen in Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation’s hybrid live-action and animated family comedy, The Smurfs. When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the Smurfs out of their village, through a magical portal, and into our world, they land in the middle of New York’s Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.
