After watching the below featurette that is meant to be about the conversion to 3D. All it seems to be is Lucas talking about the changes that have been made to the film. It seems that he has re-edited the film slightly in the use of the added dimention to make you look at what he wants you to see and not what is on the screen.

Shatner plays his hand

With George Takei's trying to be the broker of peace in a war between Star Wars and Star trek, William Shatner has given his answer. It's a pity that Shat comes across as such a prat in this.

The world's largest lightsaber

LONDON, UK (September 16, 2011) – London felt the force like never before last night as the iconic BT Tower was transformed into the World’s Largest Lightsaber™ to celebrate the Blu-ray release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga.

On Thursday 15 September at 8.30pm, from inside the exclusive star-studded launch party at the top of the BT Tower, Star Wars legend Anthony Daniels (C-3PO in all six episodes) pressed the button that lit up the London skyline for one night only as the Tower morphed into Obi-wan Kenobi’s elegant weapon of choice, projecting a giant ‘blue ray’ of light from the top.

The state of the art lighting transformed the BT Tower into the World’s Largest Lightsaber™ projecting the beam of light 200m in the air from the 189m high tower. A total of over sixty 4,500W lights, standing tall at 1.3m high, weighing 124kg each, all combined to produce a staggering parallel blue ray that was witnessed across the capital.

Anthony Daniels, who played C-3PO in all six Star Wars films, said on the night: “London played such a huge part in all six Star Wars films, so it’s fitting that we’re all here today to transform the London skyline and send a message to galaxies far, far away.”

Other celebrities who attended on the night included Star Wars legend Warwick Davis ‘Wicket’, singer Charlotte Church, The Guillemots’ front man Fyfe Dangerfield, Snow Patrol’s Paul Wilson, presenter Mark Dolan, Made in Chelsea’s ‘Cheska’, presenter Gail Porter and no shortage of Stormtroopers and other iconic Star Wars characters including Boba Fett, R2D2 and Lord Vader himself.

As a fitting climax of Star Wars Week in London, in the words of Darth Vader himself, it was “a day long remembered” by Star Wars fans in the UK and across the world.

Who let Vader loose in London?

As the UK becomes the first country in the world to release STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA on Blu-ray, London will feel the Force like never before as droids, Stormtroopers, Jedi and the Sith invade the city in a week-long Star Wars spectacular culminating in the galactic transformation of the BT Tower into the World’s Largest Lightsaber™.

The week commenced with a rude awakening from the Dark Side, as Darth Vader and a sinister fleet of Stormtroopers took to the streets in an Imperial March that will sent shivers down the spines of Londoners. The march began at St. James’ Park where they joined Changing of the Guards activities, before proceeding to HMV on Oxford Street to meet shoppers as they queued to get their hands on the highly anticipated Blu-ray release.

Star Wars legend Anthony Daniels (C-3PO in all six episodes) will provide a lighter touch on Tuesday 13 September as he meets fans at the grand opening of the HMV at the new Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford, signing copies of STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA on Blu-ray. The loveable droid was central to all six smash hit movies and Daniels’ portrayal makes him a favourite with many Star Wars fans.

On August 12-14th, Empire Presents…BIG SCREEN will play host to a variety of rare treats for Star Wars fans of all ages.

C-3P0 himself, Anthony Daniels, will be on hand on August 12th and 13th to introduce a very special Industrial Light & Magic presentation, where the geniuses behind Star Wars’ ground-breaking effects will guide audiences through the secrets of the beloved movie series.

Joining Anthony Daniels on stage will be two of ILM’s most key talent – Digital Artist John Goodson and Visual Effects Supervisor Bill George. Fans will hear from Bill and John as they take us on a journey behind the scenes of the films while revealing exclusive new content which will be found in the upcoming release of STAR WARS™: THE COMPLETE SAGA on Blu-ray.

Lucasfilm and Fox has just sent out this piece of information about the upcoming release of the entire saga on Blu-ray. All will be revealed on the Star Wars website at maythe4th.starwars.com. Events kick off at 2pm UK time but there is a countdown on the website so you can't miss it.

who are the real villans?

  Star Wars, The Rebel Alliance. The good guys. Or are they?

  We are lead to believe from the films that the Rebels are the good guys. They do win in the end by killing Darth Vader, The Emperor, destroying the 2nd Death Star and killing hundred of thousands of innocent people. Wait, I hear you say - "Thousand of innocent people?". Yes they do. The first Death Star was completed so destroying that was fine - It was a military target. Yes. It was complete and run by the Empire.  According to figures that I have found.  OK - it was Wikipedia, but that gave me a figure of the casualties. Almost 1.2million deaths! This maybe a lot higher if this website is to be believed. After all this weapon did destroy Alderaan and kill 1.9BILLION people.

The Death Star

  However, the 2nd Death Star was still under construction and as such would have had hundred of thousands of "contractors" working on the plumbing, "iron work", electrics etc.  I wouldn't be surprised if most of the afore mentioned contractors were probably slaves but the sentiment still remains.  They were "innocent" of the wrongdoings on The Empire and just doing their job - some of them, probably, under duress.  This is also excluding all the construction droids that are needed for the more dangerous aspects of construction.

  Sometimes you do need a good reason to continue the construction at a break neck speed.  You would too if you had this person as the project manager...

The boss had his own motivational idea

  I think the moral of this is never sign up for a "rush construction job" when the people who are employing you are at war - especially if it's to some far flung corner of the empire.  I just hope that the death pay was worth it.
