Video Diary 3

Head over to facebook to see the fourth installment where Carol Morley talks to the singer/songwriter Alice Temple, who's song is used both in the film and trailer.
Nobody noticed when Joyce Vincent died in her bedsit above a shopping mall in North London in 2003. Her body wasn’t discovered for three years, surrounded by Christmas presents she had been wrapping, and with the TV still on. Newspaper reports offered few details of her life - not even a photograph.

Who was she? And how could this happen to someone in our day and age - the so-called age of communication? For her film Dreams of a Life, filmmaker Carol Morley set out to find out. Joyce may have died in tragic isolation, but Morley was not going to let her be forgotten. She placed adverts in newspapers, on the Internet, and on the side of a London taxi. What she finds out is extraordinary.

A range of people that once knew Joyce help to piece together a portrait of the woman that became so forgotten. “She was very sweet, beautiful looking, a bit of a mystery. We weren’t too sure where she came from. It’s almost like she was a ghost, even then.” Dreams of a Life becomes as much about the people who remember her as it is about Joyce herself.

Impossible clips

Paramount has just sent over two great clips from the upcoming Mission Impossible IV, sorry, Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

One involves Simon Pegg talking geeky with a great punchline at the end of the clip. The other is just two girls trying to pound each other into unconsciousness / death.

Girl Fight
From the Outside
This is not just another mission.

The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in a global terrorist bombing plot. Ghost Protocol is initiated and Ethan Hunt and his rogue new team must go undercover to clear their organization’s name. No help, no contact, off the grid. You have never seen a mission grittier and more intense than this.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL is in cinemas and IMAX December 26, 2011.

Dreams of a Life - clips and images

I've just been sent over a set of clips and some images from the upcoming Dogwoof documentary, Dreams Of Life. A sad story of death and anonyminity in todays computer generated, always online world.

Are you The Lucky One?

Warner Bros. has just sent over a poster, some images and a, sort of, trailer. It's more a mix of classic trailer and a featurette. Let's call it a "trailette"!

It's been a while since a film about Iraqistan came out. This one is a "love of sorts" story. Starting out with a lucky find and, I assume, it ends happily ever after as this sort of film tends to do.

To watch this video, you need the latest Flash-Player and active javascript in your browser.

U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Zac Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive—a photograph he found of a woman he doesn’t even know. Learning her name is Beth (Taylor Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.
The Lucky One Hits UK cinema screens from May 4, 2012

Arrietty coming to DVD & Blu-ray in January

Out to own on DVD, Blu-ray Double play & Limited Edition Collector’s Edition - 9th January 2012

Discover an amazing adventure that’s unlike any other. From Studio Ghibli, the creators of Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Ponyo, ARRIETTY is an enchanting tale of “little” people with a big heart, released on DVD and Blu-ray on 9th January 2012 courtesy of STUDIOCANAL.
Beneath the floorboards of a sprawling mansion set in a magical, overgrown garden in the suburbs of Tokyo, tiny 14-year-old Arrietty lives with her equally tiny parents. The house is occupied by two old ladies, who are absolutely unaware of the existence of their miniature tenants. Arrietty and her family live by “borrowing”. Everything they have, they borrow or make from the things they have borrowed. Essentials like gas, water and food. Tables, chairs, cooking utensils. And treats - a sugar cube here, a scrap of material there. But only a little each time, so the ladies do not notice.

A 12-year-old boy, Sho, moves into the mansion while he waits for urgent medical treatment in the city. Arrietty’s parents have always warned her: “Never let humans see you.” Once seen, little people always have to move on. But the adventurous Arrietty doesn’t listen, and Sho discovers her. The two begin to confide in each other and, before long, a friendship begins to blossom...

Based on Mary Norton’s much-loved children’s classic ‘The Borrowers’, ARRIETTY is a beautiful story of childhood and friendship from the Academy Award® winning anime master Hayao Miyazaki, and the directorial debut of Studio Ghibli’s star animator Hiromasa Yonebayashi.

Featuring the voices of Olivia Colman (Rev, Tyrannosaur), Mark Strong (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Green Lantern), Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones), and Tom Holland, with its stunning animation and captivating storytelling, ARRIETTY will enthral children and adults alike.
Extras (Double-pay and deluxe edition only)
  • Storyboards
  • Trailers and Japanese TV spots
  • Interviews with Hayao Miyazaki - Hiromasa Yonebayashi
  • Cécile Corbel “Arrietty’s Song”
  • Promotional Video
