George Méliès’ restored A Trip to the Moon (Le Voyage dans la lune) with documentary The Extraordinary Voyage

Méliès’ masterpiece, A Trip to the Moon first appeared on the big screen 110 years ago. The colour version of this innovative work, hand-painted frame by frame, was considered lost for many years, until a print, in a desperate condition, was found in Spain in 1993. It is this version, which has been meticulously restored and brought back to life. Accompanying A Trip to the Moon, which opened the 2011 Cannes Film Festival to widespread acclaim, is an original soundtrack from the hugely popular French musicians, AIR. Park Circus will release Méliès’ magical mystery moon-ride on DVD in the UK from November 26, 2012.

Supplementing this comprehensive DVD edition is a superb detailed documentary by Serge Bromberg (Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Inferno) and Éric Lange titled, The Extraordinary Voyage. Delving into what became one of the most sophisticated and expensive film restorations in cinema history and featuring words from acclaimed directors and fans of the film: Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amélie), Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist) and Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), The Extraordinary Voyage makes for the perfect companion to this exciting new release and a fascinating and revealing portrait of an eternal classic.

In a visually stunning, action-filled 16 minutes, A Trip to the Moon presents a tale of six scholars and members of the Astronomers' Club who set off on an expedition to the moon. They travel in a bullet-shaped rocket fired into space by a giant canon. After arriving on the moon, they meet its inhabitants, escape their king and return to earth in their rocket, which, after falling into the ocean, is fished out by a sailor. Applause, decorations and a triumphant parade for the six heroes of the first outer-space adventure in the history of cinema play out to AIR’s thumping soundtrack.

A Trip to the Moon with accompanying documentary The Extraordinary Voyage is released on DVD in the UK from Monday November 26, 2012. Total DVD run-time: 80-minutes

W.E. is a beautifully crafted, passionate tale charting one of the greatest royal love stories of the modern age; the enduring relationship between twice divorced American Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough, Brighton Rock, Made in Dagenham) and King Edward VIII, (James D’Arcy, Master and Commander and the forthcoming Hitchcock) and the toll taken on Wallis as she comprehends the magnitude of the sacrifice that has been made for her. Viewed through the eyes of a modern day New Yorker, Wally Winthrop (Abbie Cornish, Sucker Punch, Somersault) W.E begins in 1998, and Manhattan is abuzz with anticipation about the upcoming auction of the estate of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.  But the auction is far more than a diversion for Wally, trapped in an unhappy and abusive marriage. Transfixed by the exquisite artefacts of the Windsors' lives, she becomes obsessed with their love story and in particular the chic, charismatic Wallis and what it took to capture the heart of a King. As she learns more about what Wallis gave up in choosing to be with Edward, Wally in turn starts to find the courage to follow her own heart and create her own happiness.

Directed by Madonna, the film is co-written by Madonna and Alek Keshishian and produced by Madonna and Kris Thykier (The Debt, Kick-Ass).  The highly acclaimed and award winning production team include Director of Photography, Hagen Bogdanski (The Lives of Others, The Young Victoria), Production Designer, Martin Childs (London Boulevard, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas), Costume Designer, Arianne Phillips (Walk the Line, A Single Man) who was Academy Award nominated for her sumptuous work on the film, and Hair and Make Up Designer, Jenny Shircore (Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Clash of the Titans).

From Carlos to Punk - The Tron soundtrack

28 years ago a well respected electronic music pioneer was asked to do the original Tron soundtrack.  This is of course Wendy Carlos who is probably better known for the soundtracks of Clockwork Orange and The Shining.  Now fast forward to today, 2010, and a ground-breaking electronic music group is given the chance to write, and perform, the music for the sequel ... I give you Daft Punk and the below music video.

TRON: LEGACY is a high-tech 3D adventure set in a digital world unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Oscar®-winner Jeff Bridges), a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent to the old Flynn’s Arcade – a signal that could only have come from his father – he finds himself pulled into a digital world where his father has been trapped for 20 years. With the help of a fearless warrior, Quorra (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-or-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe, created by Kevin himself, which has become far more advanced with never-before-imagined vehicles, weapons and landscapes, and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape
